The first thing that needs to be done when manufacturing a windshield is to cut the auto glass to the specifications of the vehicle model. Since all vehicles have different shapes and sizes they also require windshield and auto glass of different shapes and sizes. Therefore the various auto glass manufacturing companies have tools that can easily be adjusted to cut the deferent windshields and auto glass. Once a robot cuts the glass, the auto glass is sent to be sanded by the sanding belts, where all the sharp edges that were creating in the cutting phase are dulled down and rounded. Once the sanding is completed the windshield is sent to what is called a band filling. In this step the auto glass is fed to a machine that removes any sharp chips and material and also applies a abrasive materials coating that makes the glass smooth and stronger.

The next step is to wash the auto glass and then once clean to coat it with talcum powder, which makes the glass non-sticky and prevents glass sheets from sticking to each other. Next a new glass peace that is the same as the first is placed on top and these two windshield peaces are taped together. An inspector will analyze the two sheets of glass for defects, and once inspected the windshield will be sent to rollers, which are in charge of aligning the two peaces perfectly. Once the two peaces are aligned perfectly they are put under heat so they can be molded to the specifications of the car manufacturer. Once shaped the glass is cooled in order to make it strong.

Once the windshield is shaped to the specifications of the car model, the auto glass is inspected once again and a sheet of vinyl is placed between the two sheets. Once this sheet of laminate is between the two peaces the windshield is taken to a roller, which presses the two peaces together firmly, which pushes out air and bubbles. Finally the auto glass is inspected and shipped to the car manufacturer.
